1. Connecticut’s highways are heavily traveled by trucks. In light of recent serious truck accidents in some parts of our state, I believe:

The weigh station in Greenwich (I-95) should be open during peak travel times. Currently truck weigh and safety inspections are conducted at more than 30 locations around the state, although some are used more
frequently than others. The weigh stations are located along Interstates 84, 91, 95 and Route 8 at various
locations throughout the state.

The Department of Transportation should do a pilot program on I-95 that uses congestion mitigation fees (tolls) during peak travel hours.

2. Transportation continues to be a big concern facing Connecticut citizens – especially Fairfield County residents. I believe that plans to resolve our transportation issues must include
(check all that apply):

Developing a new railroad center in Fairfield County that is capable of running express trains to New York and back, connected by some type of shuttle that allows for enhanced parking for train riders.

Improving and expanding train service.

Improving and expanding bus service.

Building new highways.

3. The General Assembly in 2007 passed legislation to provide a tax credit to businesses that create 10 or more jobs a year. Under this law, businesses receive a tax credit equal to 60% of their state withholding tax for those new jobs. I believe the General Assembly should adopt other pro-jobs proposals, such as:

Reducing burdensome regulations by requiring a comprehensive cost/benefit analysis for every regulation in
Connecticut.

Reviewing state mandates on businesses with the goal of eliminating those that are unnecessary such as health insurance mandates (i.e. infertility treatments, wigs for cancer patients, special formula for children) and
reforming workers’ compensation.
4. Please rank the following issues regarding local property tax in order of their importance to you, with number one being the most important.

Review all unfunded state mandates on municipalities and eliminate those that contribute to high local property taxes without providing a worthwhile public benefit (i.e. binding arbitration, prevailing wage, class size limits and
revaluation).

Pass legislation forcing the state to fund all new mandates on municipalities.

Permit municipalities to create their own local property tax relief programs.

Make the state responsible for all special education costs.
5. In recent years, there have been calls for imposing a “millionaire’s tax” on Connecticut’s so-called wealthier residents. This proposal would impose higher tax rates on taxable incomes above certain thresholds. I believe that imposing such a tax is:
