Senator William Nickerson, R-Greenwich, is serving his ninth term in the Connecticut State Senate representing the 36th District which includes Greenwich and parts of Stamford and New Canaan.

Senator Nickerson serves as the Chief Deputy Minority Leader and as Ranking Member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. Senator Nickerson also serves on the Transportation Committee, the Legislative Management Committee and the State Bond Commission. He is a member of the Federal Transportation Committee of the National Conference of State Legislators.

Prior to his election to the Senate in 1990 Senator Nickerson served two terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1991 from the 149th District.

Mr. Nickerson graduated from Harvard College in 1961 and earned a law degree from Columbia Law School in 1964. He is married to the former Jane McPherson of Darien. They have two adult children - Storm and Sarah.

Senator Nickerson manages a real estate investment business. He previously practiced law and is a member of the bar in Connecticut and New York.

The Senator began his career in government in 1969 winning election to the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting where he served for 17 years. He also served as chairman of the RTM Planning and Zoning Committee.

Along with his work in the Connecticut Senate, Mr. Nickerson belongs to several civic organizations including the Greenwich Council on Youth and Drugs.

Senator Nickerson has received twelve non-partisan awards for his special legislative achievements:
