| HARTFORD – State Senator Robert
D. Russo (R-Bridgeport) today announced that the state
Commission on Culture and Tourism has awarded $55,000
in matching grants to two Bridgeport organizations. The
Connecticut Zoological Society will receive $30,000 to
market and promote Beardsley Zoo’s “Fly Me
to the Zoo” bird exhibit, and the Music and Arts
Center for Humanity (MACH) will receive $25,000 to support
its after school studio arts classes.
“Beardsley Zoo and The Music and Arts Center
for Humanity are outstanding organizations that have
done a great deal to enrich the City of Bridgeport,”
said Senator Russo. “It is my hope that this funding
will help these organizations continue to inspire an
appreciation for the arts and physical sciences, particularly
among children in the greater Bridgeport area.”
“Fly Me to the Zoo” is a live free-flight
bird show that promotes education and conservation.
The exhibit will showcase exotic birds from around the
world exhibiting their natural behaviors in Beardsley
Zoo’s outdoor amphitheater. The shows will be
hosted every Wednesday through Sunday throughout the
summer.
The Music and Arts Center for Humanity (MACH) is a
non-profit community school of the arts providing instruction
in a variety of visual and performing arts for children
and adults, particularly special needs students, the
economically disadvantaged, and the artistically gifted.
MACH is an accredited member of the National Guild of
Community Schools of the Arts and the winner of a 2005
Coming Up Taller award.
Senator Russo represents the 22nd District communities
of Bridgeport, Monroe and Trumbull. He is the Senate
Ranking Member on the General Assembly’s Select
Committee on Housing and also serves on the Commerce
and Transportation committees.
