| Senator William H. Nickerson (R-Greenwich)
joined with Governor Jodi Rell in announcing that a $498,000
grant for a childcare facility at the Greenwich YMCA has
been placed on the agenda for the March 28 Bond Commission
meeting.
Nickerson said, “I am delighted that Governor Rell has agreed that the
state should be a partner with the Greenwich YMCA in
establishing a new childcare facility in the YMCA with
a capacity for 60 net new toddler slots. This facility
will make a particularly strong contribution to the
community because it is located in the Y’s downtown
Greenwich facility adjacent to job centers where the
need is greatest.”
“The childcare facility is part of a much larger
construction project involving a major renovation of
the entire Y, including the new Olympic pool which opened
last fall. As a member of the Y I can personally attest
to the tremendous contribution the Y makes to the Greenwich
community and the childcare facility will be a key part
of that. The state bond grant will provide additional
momentum for the ongoing fundraising efforts, including
gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.”
The childcare facility project is budgeted at $1,550,000.
All necessary building permits have been obtained and
construction is well under way.
