Senator William H. Nickerson (R-Greenwich) released the following comment “I am appalled by the magnitude of the gigantic proposed Democratic tax increase, pushing hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars of new taxes on the backs of Connecticut taxpayers.  At a proposed top rate of 6.95% Connecticut would have one of the very highest rates in the nation, exceeding even New York State, famous for its high taxes, with a top rate of 6.85%.  It is ironic, to say the very least, that this comes less than 24 hours after Senator Don Williams, Democratic President of the Senate, made a speech on the Senate floor lamenting slow growth in Connecticut’s economy and job production. It would be hard to imagine anything more certain to seriously stifle economic growth and job creation than this Democratic mega tax increase.

The increase is scheduled to be approved by the Finance Committee on tax filing day which this year falls on Tuesday April 17th – how ironic.  For many it will be the last Connecticut filing they make as they prepare to move out of state.”
