Senator William H. Nickerson (R-Greenwich), Ranking Member of the Finance Committee and a member of the Bond Commission, released the following statement today:

“At my request $2,000,000 for remediation of brown fields at the Cos Cob power plant site was included in the bonding bill recently adopted by the Finance Committee.  The bill is expected to be voted on by the House and Senate before adjournment on May 3.  The final step in the process would be for the Governor to include remediation funding in a future Bond Commission agenda.

The amount and the timing of the State’s participation will depend on passage of the bonding bill and on the results of the forthcoming engineering study being undertaken by the town’s consultant in order to obtain cost estimates for remediation.

I look forward to working with First Selectman Jim Lash, my fellow legislators and town officials in moving this process forward so that state participation in remediation funding can be obtained.”
