Senator William H. Nickerson (R-Greenwich) announced that the Bond Commission, of which he is a member, today unanimously approved a grant of $200,000 to Family Centers, Inc. The funds will be used as part of the $500,000 purchase price allowing Family Centers, Inc. to buy the Gateway Preschool property at the corner of Chapel Street and Weaver Street in Greenwich. The Gateway Preschool is operated by Family Centers and presently provides childcare and educational services for up to 53 children. The property is owned by Christ Church in Greenwich which has made the building available rent-free since 1973 and now wishes to sell the property to Family Centers.
Family Centers is a community based social services agency which provides a wide variety of social services and programs in the Greenwich area.
Nickerson said, "This $200,000 grant was included in the Bond Commission Agenda today at my request. I am delighted that the state will be joining as a partner with Family Centers to assure continuance of the much needed daycare facility at Gateway Preschool. Family Centers is one of the strongest non profit social services organizations in our area and the purchase of the property will further anchor their presence in our community. I have particular confidence in Family Center's President, Bob Arnold, and I know that he, his staff and the Board of Directors will be responsible stewards of the property and will continue to supply the same high level services in the future as they have in the past. We are fortunate to have such a well run agency in Greenwich." |
