The
funding will be used to finance construction of the parking
garage. This garage is the final phase of a reconstruction
project which began in 1994. The total project included
the construction of a nine-story, 250,000 square-foot building,
demolition of the old courthouse and the construction of
this new 625-space parking garage. The total cost of the
project is $95 million.
“The
new Stamford Courthouse is wonderful for the community,
and the additional garage spaces will provide easier access
for the public to this state of the art facility. This new
parking garage represents the final step of a multi-phased
project which began in 1994, and I look forward to its final
completion,” said Senator Nickerson. “I am thankful
to Governor Rowland for providing his continuous support,
particularly in these difficult financial times, for the
renovation of the Stamford Courthouse.”
The
new parking garage is expected to be started by January
2004 and completed by the end of next summer.
