| Senator
William H. Nickerson (R-Greenwich) announced today that the
General Assembly has approved a $1,012,706 grant to the Town
of Greenwich for the alteration of Western Middle School.
This grant is part of a bill adopted today authorizing a total
of $605.6 million for school construction grants throughout
the state.
This grant represents a reimbursement to the Town of Greenwich
for a project which has already been completed. Five additional
classrooms were created at Western Middle School and the
science facilities were updated. The renovations were finished
and ready for the 2002-03 school year.
Sen. Nickerson said, “I am very pleased that the state
will assist the Town of Greenwich in financing this project.
The new classrooms and modern science facilities are a great
benefit to the students at Western Middle School.”
The total cost of the project is $4,974,000. The initial
funding for this project was appropriated by the Town Meeting
in January 2001, and this state grant would provide over
$1 million in reimbursement to the Town. This grant will
be dispersed to the Town through the State Bond Commission,
which meets monthly. |
