| Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced
that $450,000 for the implementation of a streetscape
program in Fairfield gained approval when the state Bond
Commission met on March 28.
The funds will be used for the implementation of a streetscape program as
well as the renovation of a town-owned building for
arts and cultural activities.
The funds are being made available through the Connecticut
Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP). STEAP
provides financial assistance for projects that encourage
economic development and preserve the character of the
state’s less populated towns.
“Keeping our streets in pristine condition and
investing in community arts is something the whole community
can take pride in,” said Governor Rell. “This
is important funding for Fairfield and I am happy we
can help.”
“This is wonderful news for the people of Fairfield,”
said State Senator John McKinney, 28th District. “These
funds will provide the resources needed to implement
our streetscape program and provide a place for the
community to come together for arts and cultural activities.”
Governor Rell also thanked State Representatives Tom
Christiano of the 134th District, Kim Fawcett of the
133rd District and Thomas Drew of the 132nd District
for their hard work concerning the project.
More than $19.7 million in STEAP funds for 72 towns
were approved by the Bond Commission today. The funds
will enable 83 projects across the state to move forward.
