State Sen. John
McKinney, R-28, and state Reps. Cathy Tymniak, R-133, John
“Jack” Stone, R-134, and Carl Dickman, R-132,
today announced a state grant of $439,129 to help renovate
Fairfield’s Main Library at the Post Road and Old
Post Road.
Of the amount,
$332,129 is for renovations to comply with current building
codes and $107,000 is for furniture and shelving. The library
previously was approved for a $167,871 remodeling grant
last year.
“This is
great news for the entire Fairfield community,” said
Sen. McKinney. “The library has been in need of structural
improvements for some time now and through the efforts of
both state and local officials working together, we now
have this funding in place. That cooperation will help alleviate
the cost of the project to town residents.”
“Originally
built in 1903, the library has been expanded and improved
over the years, but it is overdue for additional modernization,”
said Rep. Tymniak. “We are delighted to see that our
work over the past year to secure this funding has finally
paid off.”
Rep. Stone said,
“The Fairfield library is one of the most heavily
used in the state. This funding will go a long way toward
the renovation of the library for the benefit of thousands
of children and families from Fairfield and surrounding
towns. In addition, many of the library’s resources
are available over the internet to people throughout Connecticut.”
