Statement from State Senate Minority Leader
John McKinney (R-Fairfield):
“Pratt & Whitney is not threatening to leave
the state because the company doesn’t have a viable
business model. They are struggling in part because
the legislature has created a decidedly anti-business
climate in Connecticut. The same Democrat legislators
who stood side-by-side with Pratt & Whitney’s
workers today did nothing in recent budget negotiations
to create jobs or make Connecticut a more hospitable
place for business. Instead they raised income tax rates
and saddled businesses like Pratt & Whitney’s
parent company United Technologies with a new 10% corporate
profits tax. Connecticut businesses see the writing
on the wall. When times get tough, they get taxed. And
as this economy worsens, they know this Democrat supermajority
will tax them even more.”
Statement from State Senate Minority Leader
Pro Tempore Len Fasano (R-North Haven):
“It is disingenuous for any legislator who voted
in favor of the FY10-11 budget to question why Connecticut
businesses are laying-off workers and threatening to
leave the state. The budget they voted for did nothing
to help improve Connecticut’s business climate.
As a result, Governor Rell is left with no other option
but to go to every business that is threatening to leave
the state and offer them incentives to stay. Instead,
the legislature should work to make Connecticut a more
business-friendly place to begin with.”
