Senate Republican Leader John McKinney (R-Fairfield):
“Despite their promises of bipartisanship, the Democrats have drafted a budget proposal behind closed doors and without Republican input. I fear the Democrat budget, while having some cuts, has not done the hard work of making government smaller and more efficient. It instead relies on borrowing and increasing taxes on families and small businesses.
“I am also more concerned than ever that the Democrats will continue to ignore the current budget deficit, which the Comptroller today projected at more than $1 billion. Their refusal to address this year’s deficit means that it will instead be balanced by borrowing on the backs of our children and grandchildren. This is not the right solution, particularly in this economy.”
House Republican Leader Lawrence F. Cafero Jr. (R-Norwalk):
“It is unfortunate that our repeated pleas and requests to play an active role in developing a bipartisan budget have gone unheeded to this point. We remain willing to take on the fiscal crisis confronting Connecticut together because with each passing day the problems grow worse.’’
