State Sen. John A. Kissel, R-Enfield, today appointed
Enfield Mayor Scott Kaupin to serve on the Criminal
Justice Policy Advisory Commission’s Correctional
Staff Health and Safety Subcommittee (Subcommittee).
Kaupin was selected to fill the vacant position on the
subcommittee newly formed pursuant to PA 09-223.
“I could not think of a better person for the
job,” said Sen. Kissel. “I have known Scott
for many years and I know the level of knowledge and
excellence he will bring to the table. He has served
our community in Enfield for many years and will soon
begin his second tenure as Mayor. He has a strong interest
in correctional issues as Enfield has three correctional
facilities. To have someone with Scott’s background
and knowledge serving on this subcommittee is great
for the state as whole.”
A lifelong resident of Enfield, Kaupin is a graduate
of Enrico Fermi High School and currently serves as
the town’s mayor, a position he has held since
2007. He received his undergraduate degree from the
University of New Hampshire and holds a Masters Degree
in International Relations from Syracuse University.
Kaupin is a Logistics Manager for Retail Brand Alliance,
Inc. of Enfield.
The Correctional Staff Health and Safety Committee
was established to review policies and procedures of
the Department of Correction regarding health and safety
of staff. The subcommittee includes representatives
of correction officers unions as well as appointees
by the chairs and ranking member of the Judiciary Committee
and the Public Safety Committee.
“I attended the first meeting this afternoon
and I have no doubt that the work this subcommittee
undertakes will have a positive and lasting effect on
the safety of correctional staff,” said Sen. Kissel.
“Scott brings a unique perspective as town leader
of a community hosting correctional facilities. He is
definitely the right person for the job and I was honored
that he willingly accepted this appointment.”
Kaupin’s term on the Board is effective immediately.
