Senator John A. Kissel
(R-Enfield) today contacted the state Department
of Labor (DOL) about an announcement that Hamilton Sundstrand
in Windsor Locks had laid off 62 workers Monday. Sen.
Kissel requested that the Department of Labor begin
providing aid and employment services to the workers
who lost their jobs.
“Hamilton Sundstrand is a very important company
in this area and unfortunately they have had to face
some very difficult decisions. I am confident that they
are taking every measure possible to avoid any unnecessary
layoffs and I am hopeful that as the economy recovers,
many of these jobs will be restored” said
Sen. Kissel.
Senator Kissel also requested that the Department of
Labor dispatch its Rapid Response Team to Windsor Locks
to educate the workers about job search assistance,
unemployment benefits and training opportunities and
was informed that DOL had begun providing such assistance.
“It is never easy to lose a job, and in the current
economic situation a job loss is particularly devastating,”
said Sen. Kissel.
“Laid-off workers must have the support of local
and state officials and I am happy to see the state
Department of Labor taking very seriously the task of
helping these workers navigate through the difficult
process of finding new employment.”
Hamilton Sundstrand has already laid off 300 workers
in Connecticut this year and plans to lay off as many
as 1500 employees in Connecticut alone by the end of
the year.
