| Senator John A. Kissel (R-7) announced
that the State Bond Commission is expected to approve
much-needed funding to defray the cost of rehabilitating
and expanding the Woodcrest Elderly Housing facility in
Somers.
When the State Bond Commission meets Friday, it is
expected to approve an $878,050 grant-in-aid to the
Somers Housing Authority to help with the cost of conserving
52 existing units and creating 34 new units of elderly
housing. The Somers Housing Authority will loan the
funds to Woodcrest Elderly Housing Limited Partnership
in a non-amortizing 40-year loan with one percent deferred
interest.
Senator Kissel said he has been working with local
and state officials for several months to help secure
this funding.
“I want to thank Governor Rell for supporting
the town of Somers’ efforts to provide quality
affordable housing to low income elderly adults. The
Town of Somers has stepped forward by donating land
for this project and state and local officials have
worked together to secure state and federal funding.
This latest bond allocation brings us one step closer
to making Woodcrest’s expansion project a reality,”
said Senator Kissel. “I also want to thank Representative
Penny Bacchiochi (R-52) for her tireless efforts on
behalf of the good people of Somers and the seniors
who call Woodcrest their home.”
Woodcrest Elderly Housing is the largest development
completed by the Somers Housing Authority. Wood Crest
Senior Housing which consists of 52 affordable elderly
rental units was built in 1974 at an estimated cost
of $1.3 million.
