| State Senator John A. Kissel, R-Enfield,
is congratulating the Town of Windsor Locks for a grant in
the amount of $5,000 for the Main Street Area Master Planning
Study. The funding is part of the Connecticut Main Street
Center’s 2007 Preservation of Place grants. The town
is one of seven communities that have been recognized for
their efforts in the “preservation and revitalization
of their ‘main streets.’” “I
am really happy for the town and all the people involved
in the downtown revitalization efforts. Only seven towns
across the state received these grants so this award really
represents the recognition of all the hard work people are
doing to make downtown Windsor Locks a place where more
people want to go and do business. They should be commended,”
said Sen. Kissel.
The goal of the Main Street Area Master
Planning Study is to develop strategies for increasing pedestrian
activity, enhancing public spaces, reusing vacant or underutilized
structures and initiating traffic improvements compatible
with a pedestrian environment. The Preservation of Place
grant-funded portion of this study will focus on redevelopment
strategies for Dexter Plaza, the Montgomery Building and
the historic railroad station.
Connecticut Main Street Center
is part of a national network that provides training and
advocacy to public and private partnerships seeking to build
economically vibrant “main streets” as the foundation
for growing healthy communities.
