FEMA announces that Hartford County eligible for
75% federal reimbursement
State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield)
is thrilled with the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s
(FEMA) approval of disaster recovery funding for Hartford
County municipalities and non-profits that sustained flood
damage this past October. The town of Enfield, which Senator
Kissel represents, was one of dozens of communities that
sustained damage during the severe flooding that took place
on October 14th and 15th of 2005. Back in December, FEMA
had deemed Hartford County ineligible for funding since
it did not meet the minimum per-capita requirement. FEMA
has since revised its damage assessment.
“This is great news for the people of Enfield!”
said Senator Kissel, who is a Deputy Minority Leader. “Many
people throughout Enfield and all of Hartford County suffered
damage during last fall’s flood so it is great that
FEMA has declared the area eligible for federal funding.”
With this announcement, municipalities,
non-profit organizations, state agencies and quasi-government
organizations in Hartford County are now eligible for 75%
federal reimbursement for certain emergency and permanent
restorative work. Senator Kissel praised the State’s
Congressmen and women for their efforts in securing this
funding.
“Our Congressional delegation
really did an outstanding job by working to make sure that
the people of Enfield will get their fair share of federal
flood relief dollars,” added Senator Kissel.
Senator Kissel is serving his
seventh term representing the 7th district communities of
East Granby, Enfield, Granby, Somers, Suffield, Windsor,
and Windsor Locks.
