| State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield)
today commended Governor M. Jodi Rell for her recently proposed
transportation initiative aimed at improving a variety of
train and bus services throughout the state. The proposal
includes two major projects in Senator Kissel’s district,
a new train station in Enfield on the New Haven-Hartford Springfield
line as well as a new bus service from the Windsor Locks rail
station to Bradley International Airport. “I
would like to commend Governor Rell for her continued strong
commitment to addressing the transportation issues that
have impacted our state for years. Governor Rell showed
strong initiative last year and was able to get bi-partisan
support on a bill that made sweeping improvements to our
rail lines and highways,” said Senator Kissel, who
represents seven towns in North Central Connecticut. “Now
the Governor is building on last year’s accomplishment
with another major initiative that will hopefully reduce
congestion on our highways and improve the state’s
transportation infrastructure.”
Enfield is one of three towns that will
benefit from a new train station, and it joins eight other
communities already on the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield
line. The bus service in Windsor Locks will allow travelers
without automobiles easier access to Bradley International
Airport.
“Hundreds of residents in
my district who currently commute to their jobs in Hartford,
Springfield, or New Haven by automobile have to brave what
is often heavy traffic on I-91. This new rail stop will
give them a convenient additional option for their daily
commute. The people of Enfield have been very supportive
of the idea of locating a railroad station in town. Not
only can this railroad station afford people much needed
access to rail service, but can help to continue to revitalize
the Thompsonville section of town,” added Senator
Kissel. “Further, the new bus service to Bradley will
certainly be of great benefit to travelers who wish to avoid
parking at the airport.”
Senator Kissel is a Deputy Minority
Leader and the Ranking Senator on the Judiciary Committee.
He is in his seventh term representing the seventh district
which consists of East Granby, Enfield, Granby, Somers,
Suffield, Windsor, and Windsor Locks.
