State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield)
today was thrilled with the announcement by Governor M.
Jodi Rell that
$2.8 million in state funding for Enfield would be included
on the next State Bond Commission Agenda. The funding will
compensate the town of Enfield for costs it incurred upgrading
its wastewater treatment plant to handle excessive sewage
flow produced by the state’s Department of Corrections.
Senator Kissel worked closely with several state officials
to ensure that the funding would be included in the state’s
bond package.
“What a tremendous early Christmas
present for the good people of Enfield,” said Senator
Kissel.
“On behalf of the town’s citizens, I would first
like to thank Governor Rell for her efforts. The state and
the town of Enfield settled on the $2.8 million as an agreeable
reimbursement amount several months ago and it’s wonderful
news that the state is spreading some holiday cheer by following
through on its commitment.”
Senator Kissel voted in favor of
the state’s bond package that included the funding
for Enfield in June. Items included in the bond package
then must be approved by the State Bond Commission, which
is chaired by Governor Rell and meets every month.
“I would also like to express my appreciation to Office
of Policy and Management Secretary Robert Genuario, who
I met with several times and from whom I was able to secure
a commitment that Enfield would be properly compensated,”
said Senator Kissel. “I was also fortunate to work
with Senator Donald DeFronzo (D-New Britain), who serves
as the Chairman on the Finance Committee’s General
Bonding Subcommittee, to ensure that this
$2.8 million was included in the Finance Committee’s
original bonding bill.”
The Bond Commission is scheduled to meet Friday December
9th at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford.
Senator Kissel is a Deputy Minority Leader. He is serving
his seventh term representing the seventh district communities
of Granby, East Granby, Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor,
and Windsor Locks.
