U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers’ Initiative to Benefit Black
Rock, Hop Brook & Northfield Brook Lakes & Thomaston
Dam
Senator Rob Kane (R-32) said that federal stimulus
funding for a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ civil
works initiative in Connecticut will benefit several
local communities.
“As Governor Rell said when announcing this
funding, these projects will both protect our irreplaceable
natural resources and benefit our state economy by creating
and retaining jobs. I am delighted to see this federal
funding invested in worthwhile projects here in Thomaston,
Watertown and Middlebury,” said Senator Kane.
Senator Kane said that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
is set to invest $5.6 million in flood control projects
in several communities across Connecticut. Of that,
$2.5 million is to be spent for dam safety improvements
and repairs at Hop Brook Lake, which is spread over
three area communities, including Middlebury. The lake
can store more than 2 billion gallons of water for flood
control.
In addition, federal stimulus funding will be spent
for bridge inspection, equipment replacement and repairs
at Black Rock Lake, which is located in Thomaston and
Watertown; at Northfield Brook Lake, a portion of which
is located in Thomaston; and at Thomaston Dam.
