Forum Scheduled
For May 4th At Southbury Town Hall
Senator Rob Kane (R-32) will provide constituents
with the opportunity to learn about the state budget
process and express their views regarding the various
proposals under consideration at an open budget forum.
Senator Kane’s public
budget forum will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday,
May 4th, 2009 in Room 205A at Southbury Town Hall, 501
Main Street in Southbury.
“Unemployment is at 7.5 percent
right now, and could reach eight percent in the near
future. People are understandably worried about what
the legislature will do to close our current state budget
deficit, and whether the new two year state budget will
include punitive tax increases that they simply cannot
afford. Governor Rell, the Democratic majority and the
Republicans have all put their budget proposals on the
table. This forum is an opportunity for interested constituents
to learn more about those proposals, to ask questions,
and express their opinions,” said Senator Kane.
Senator Kane, a member of the General Assembly’s
budget-writing Appropriations Committee, has already
said he favors passing a state budget that cuts government
spending over one that would require massive tax increases
on Connecticut’s families and businesses.
“It is time for all of us, Governor Rell, Democrats
and Republicans, to come together in a bipartisan manner
to develop a responsible state budget that provides
necessary government services at a cost the taxpayers
can afford. The clock is ticking – this legislative
session ends on June 3rd,” said Senator Kane.
Senator Kane urged constituents who cannot attend
his forum to contact him with the ideas and concerns
about the state budget by calling his legislative office
at 1-800-842-1421, or sending him an e-mail at Rob.Kane@cga.ct.gov.
