| Senator Rob Kane (R-32) announced
that the State Bond Commission has approved $2 million
to repair a bridge in Thomaston under the state’s
Fix-It-First program. The State Bond Commission approved
the funding during its December 12th meeting.
According to the state Department of Transportation,
the Thomaston project involves “replacing the
bridge deck, painting the beam ends of the existing
superstructure, replacing the bridge bearings and patching
the substructure of the bridge carrying Route 8 northbound
over Fenn Road.” It is expected that advertising
for bids will be in June and, if all goes as scheduled,
construction could begin in late fall of 2009.
“On behalf of everyone who routinely crosses
this bridge, I want to thank Governor M. Jodi Rell for
supporting funding for these repairs,” said Senator
Kane.
Senator Kane said he believes it is important that
state government continue make necessary repairs and
perform necessary preventive maintenance on bridges
and roads even during tough economic times.
“It is important that state government continue
to maintain the infrastructure of our state, and continue
to make efforts to help municipalities provide necessary
services for their citizens. Even in tough economic
times, we need to make sure that our bridges and roads
are maintained,” said Senator Kane.
