| Senator Rob Kane (R-32) announced
that several area communities were awarded Small Town
Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grants for capital
improvement projects involving economic development, community
conservation and quality of life improvements.
Towns in the 32nd Senatorial District are among the
72 communities that will benefit from the $19,714,058
in STEAP funding approved by the State Bond Commission
on March 28th.
“I want to thank Governor M. Jodi Rell and members
of the State Bond Commission for approving the funding,
and for supporting these important projects in our communities,”
said Senator Kane.
The following area communities are among those awarded
STEAP grants:
• Bethlehem - $80,000, construction of sidewalks
; $75,000, rehabilitation and repaving of parking areas
that serve the Bethlehem ball fields, public works garage,
and firehouse; $35,000, construction of a new playscape
at the Bethlehem Town Beach.
• Oxford - $90,000, construction of a right turning
lane and signal at the corner of Great Hill Road and
Route 67.
• Roxbury - $445,000, rehabilitation of Judds
Briggs over the Shepaug River.
• Seymour - $150,000, construction of new and
replacement sidewalks throughout the municipality; $150,000,
repair to Sochrin’s Pond Dam.
• Southbury - $220,000, Southbury Beach Parking
Project.
• Thomaston - $498,300, sidewalk improvement
program, phase 2.
• Watertown - $498,697, installation of a metal
building for use as an indoor recreational facility
in Veterans’ Memorial Park.
