| Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced
that the State Bond Commission has awarded the town of
Hartland a $83,250 grant for renovations to the West Hartland
Community Center.
The town of Hartland is receiving a $83,250 Small Town
Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant to continue
renovations to the Community Center. The funds will
be used to bring the Center up to current building codes
and to provide for handicap accessibility.
“These funds will allow Hartland to continue
with the project they already have underway to renovate
the Community Center,” Governor Rell said. “It
is important that we have places in our towns where
the community can come together and engage in social
and recreational activities and this building serves
that purpose in Hartland.”
“The West Hartland Community Center is very heavily
used by the public and a number of organizations throughout
the community,” said State Senator Thomas Herlihy
(R-8). “Today’s funding will provide for
both renovations and new construction to meet the increasing
use of the Center.”
Governor Rell thanked State Representative George Wilber
(D-63) for his support of the Community Center project.
The state funded STEAP grant program provides funds
to eligible towns for economic development, community
conservation and quality of life projects. To be eligible,
a town must have a population of less than 30,000 residents,
not be designated as a distressed municipality or a
public investment community, and not have an urban center.
The state Office of Policy and Management administers
this program, and individual projects are managed by
several state agencies including DECD.
More than $19.7 million in STEAP funds for 72 towns
were approved by the Bond Commission today. The funds
will enable 83 projects across the state to move forward.
