Legislature Adopts Resolution Supporting Troops
State Sens. Thomas J. Herlihy and Andrew Roraback, R-30th, and State Rep. Anne Ruwet, R-65th, Torrington, today joined in sponsoring a resolution supporting the United States armed forces and their families during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The state legislature unanimously approved the resolution, expressly extending condolences to the families and friends of members of the armed forces who have lost their lives in the Iraq conflict.

Rep. Ruwet said, “Thousands of active military personnel from Connecticut as well as National Guard and Reserve personnel are courageously risking their lives in support of freedom. On behalf of the people of Connecticut, we extend our support for their dedication.”

"As young women and men from our state are serving with such bravery in Iraq, it is fitting that we in Hartford pause to express our appreciation for their sacrifice," said Senator Roraback.

"Our sons and daughters in the armed services put themselves in harm's way in order to ensure that we will continue to enjoy the freedom and quality of life that we've grown so accustomed to. We will forever be in their debt," said Senator Herlihy.

Rep. Ruwet added, “Like all Americans, our thoughts and prayers are with the men and women who are putting themselves at great risk in the cause of freedom. We can never thank them enough for their courageous and determined service to our nation.”

In addition to active U.S. armed forces, they noted that more than 2,000 Connecticut National Guard and Reserve personnel have been called to duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom and in support of Operation Noble Eagle to provide reinforced homeland security in the northeast United States.
