Grant is Earmarked
for Various Town-Wide Capital Improvements
Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that the town
of Ashford will receive over $150,000 for the construction
of various much-needed capital improvement projects
throughout the town.
The State Bond Commission, chaired by Governor Rell,
approved a $156,250 STEAP (Small Town Economic Assistance
Program) grant for Ashford. The state investment is
for various capital improvement projects town-wide,
including the construction of a crosswalk, improvements
at the town transfer station, the replacement of decaying
guardrails and the installation of a HVAC system at
the dog pound.
“This state grant will, though modest in size,
will go a long way in helping Ashford make a number
of public improvements. These funds will help reduce
the financial burden for residents while maintaining
a sense of pride for those who call Ashford home,”
said Governor Rell.
“Just like any of the 169 municipalities –
large or small – towns like Ashford have needs
too when it comes to improving the well-being of the
community. This STEAP grant will have a direct impact
on Ashford and its residents and help us invest in much-needed
improvements that Ashford may not have otherwise been
able to afford at this time,” said State Senator
Tony Guglielmo (R-Stafford).
Governor Rell also thanked State Representative Bryan
Hurlburt (D-Tolland) for his advocacy in securing this
STEAP grant.
The funds for these projects in Ashford were made available
through the STEAP program which provides about $20 million
annually in financial assistance for projects that encourage
economic development and preserve the character of Connecticut’s
less populated towns.
