State Senator
Tony Guglielmo, R-Stafford, said today that funding for
a new public safety complex for the Town of Vernon is expected
to be approved by the State Bond Commission. The item, in
the amount of $500,000, is scheduled to be acted upon at
the Bond Commission's monthly meeting to be held this Friday,
May 30th, at 10:30 am, at the Legislative Office Building
in Hartford.
Sen. Guglielmo,
who serves as Ranking Senate Member of the legislature's
Public Safety Committee, said that the new public safety
complex in would be located at the current site of the town's
ambulance building. The expansion of this facility will
be two stories and will include a training room, meeting
hall, office space, conference room, ambulance bays and
an emergency operations center.
"When you
look at a town the size of Vernon it's important to have
an emergency management facility that is centrally located,"
said Sen. Guglielmo. "The public safety needs of today
are a lot different than they were 10 to 15 years ago. The
changing needs of our communities require that the proper
facilities are in place that will improve the communications
and overall effectiveness of our public safety officials."
