| Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26)
said that several area communities will benefit from the
Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grants
recently announced.
The State Bond Commission on March 28th approved nearly
$20 million to fund grants for 83 projects in 72 communities
across Connecticut, including New Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield
and Weston.
“STEAP funding is an enormous help to smaller
Connecticut communities that can benefit from the state’s
help to pay for economic development, community conservation
and quality of life projects. The residents of these
communities certainly appreciate the financial assistance,
and I am grateful to Governor Rell for her support,”
said Senator Freedman.
STEAP funding was awarded to:
• New Canaan: $150,000 for rehabilitation
of the trail system at Waveny Park.
• Redding: $400,000 for construction
of various improvements to the athletic fields at John
Read Middle School.
• Ridgefield: $250,000 for construction
of various improvements along Danbury Road.
• Weston: $250,000 for construction
of an archival records facility on the grounds of the
Weston Historical Society.
