| Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26)
said the General Assembly’s Government Administration
& Elections Committee (GAE) will hold several public hearings
in communities across Connecticut to give residents the opportunity
to comment on the state’s new optical scan voting machines.
The GAE Committee, of which
Senator Freedman is a ranking member, has scheduled community
public hearings this month in Norwich, Norwalk, West Hartford,
Danbury and East Haven.
The GAE will
hold a public hearing on the new optical scan voting machines
at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 14th at the Norwalk City Council
Chambers at Norwalk City Hall, 125 East Street. Sign-up
for those wishing to speak will begin at 6:30 p.m. Written
testimony will be accepted.
Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26) said
she is looking forward to the opportunity to hear what the
public has to say about the new voting machines.
“I worked at the polls during
the last election and had the chance to see the new voting
machines in operation. During the last local election, it
was a light voter turnout and people had to wait in order
to be able to fill out their ballots, and I cannot imagine
what it will be like for the presidential election. I am
concerned about privacy issues, and how the machines actually
work on an election day. I want to hear what other voters
have to say,” said Senator Freedman.
