| Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26)
has been appointed to serve on the Joint Committee on Transportation
as a mid-term replacement for Sen. John McKinney.
Senator Freedman said, “I look
forward to being able to bring to fruition many of the concerns
my constituents have when it comes to transportation issues
in lower Fairfield County.”
The Transportation Committee is the
committee of cognizance over the Department of Motor Vehicles
and the Department of Transportation. The transportation
committee has jurisdiction over all the commuter lines,
including Metro North, all ports, mass transit and the division
of aviation, including Bradley International Airport.
“Being appointed during
the short session will give me a chance to hone in on just
a few issues such as congestion mitigation and the possible
bifurcation of the Department of Transportation into two
agencies. Other issues that may be addressed this session
will be the operational hours of the weigh stations and
ensuring the timely improvements to the Danbury-Norwalk
line. I look forward to working with the chairman and ranking
members in a bi-partisan manner.”
Senator Freedman is serving her
11th term representing the towns of Bethel, New Canaan,
Redding, Ridgefield, Weston and Westport. She is the Chief
Deputy Republican Leader. Currently, she serves as the Senate
Ranking Member of the Government Administration and Elections
Committee, and of the Select Committee on Children. She
is a member of the Legislative Management Committee, the
Transportation Committee and the Appropriations Committee,
of which she is the ranking member of its subcommittees
for Higher Education and Lower Education.
