| Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26)
today joined University of Connecticut President Michael Hogan,
a bipartisan group of legislators and representatives of the
energy industry, to celebrate implementation of the state’s
Eminent Faculty Program created under the 2006 21st Century
Jobs Bill. Senator Freedman,
ranking member of the legislature’s higher education
subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee and a former
ranking member of the Higher Education and Employment Advancement
Committee, applauded UConn’s decision to join forces
with Fuel Cell Energy, UTC Power, a United Technologies
Company, and the Northeast Utilities Foundation to invest
in the recruitment of a fuel cell research team.
“Connecticut has so often
been first in bringing about new ideas and inventions that
benefited society. Out state is still leading the world,
this time with the decision for UConn and the energy industry
to join forces to advance our efforts to create clean, renewable
energy. This significant financial investment on the part
of the state, and on the part of the energy industry, will
pay dividends well into the future,” said Senator
Freedman.
Senator Freedman participated
in a press conference at the Legislative Office Building
during which it was announced that UConn had secured an
industry match commitment of a combined $2 million.
