| Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26),
a member of the Council of State Government’s Eastern
Region executive committee and of its steering committee on
education issues, participated in the organization’s
recent annual meeting and regional policy forum held in Quebec,
Canada.
“The annual meeting and
conference was, as it always is, both informative and interesting.
I have viewed my participation in the CSG as a valuable
opportunity to benefit from the experience of legislators
from other states who, along with policy experts, are dealing
with the same issues that face Connecticut. I believe that
my participation helps me to better represent the best interests
of my constituents, and our state, as the General Assembly
debates these issues and crafts legislation,” said
Senator Freedman.
This year’s annual meeting
and conference was titled “Regional Challenges, Innovative
Opportunities: Sharing State-Province Expertise” and
designed to provide legislators and other officials from
CSG/ERC member states and provinces with the opportunity
to learn more about best practices in the Northeast. Those
who attended the conference attended workshops and meetings
on a variety of topics, including education, agriculture,
criminal justice, health policies, environmental issues,
energy, and transportation.
The Council of State Governments is a non-partisan, public,
non-profit organization that provides information, research,
and training to state officials in all 50 states and U.S.
territories. The CSG Eastern Regional Council is focused
on facilitating the exchange of ideas among state policy
makers, business leaders and the academic community in its
17 member jurisdictions, including the ten northeastern
states, from Maine to Delaware, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin
Islands, and the Canadian Provinces of Quebec, New Brunswick,
Newfoundland & Labrador, Ontario and Nova Scotia.
