Sen. Freedman Urges Families To Plan Back-To-School Shopping
During Upcoming Sales Tax Holiday Week

Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26) is urging families to plan their back-to-school shopping expeditions for the upcoming sales tax holiday week scheduled for August 20th through August 26th.

“This is the week that parents look forward to all year – the week when they can buy their children’s back-to-school clothing and shoes and put the sales tax back in their pockets,” said Senator Freedman.

During this annual one-week period that occurs in August, there is no Connecticut state sales tax on clothing and footwear that costs less than $300 per item. According to the state Department of Revenue Services, this applies to “sales made by Connecticut retailers, sales made by out-of-state retailers required to collect Connecticut use tax on sales to Connecticut customers, and purchases by Connecticut customers on which they would otherwise be required to self-assess use tax.”

“Sales Tax Holiday Week is a terrific opportunity for Connecticut retailers to attract shoppers, and an excellent time for Connecticut families to save some of their hard-earned money in the process of getting their children ready for school. I urge everyone to mark their calendars and plan accordingly,” said Senator Freedman.
