Senator Freedman Named To New State Committee On Juvenile Justice Planning

Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26) has been appointed to the newly created Juvenile Jurisdiction Planning and Implementation Committee by Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca.

“As someone who advocates for legislation intended to improve the quality of life for troubled children and their families, including making changes to our juvenile justice system, I am excited about this appointment. I want to thank Senator DeLuca for this opportunity,” said Senator Freedman.

The Juvenile Jurisdiction Planning and Implementation Committee, created by legislation passed this year, is charged with planning for the “implementation of any changes in the juvenile justice system that would be required in order to extend jurisdiction in delinquency matters and proceedings to include sixteen-year old and seventeen-year old children within the Superior Court For Juvenile Matters.” The committee is required to reports is findings, including any recommendations for proposed legislation, to the appropriate legislative committees by February 1st, 2007.

“Our work has the potential to greatly affect the juvenile justice system in our state, and I look forward to the opportunity to contribute,” said Senator Freedman.
