Senator Freedman Hails Final Legislative Passage Of Transportation Bill

Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26) called the 10-year, $2.3 billion transportation bill passed by the Senate today as the best news that Fairfield County – and everyone who travels through Fairfield County – has heard from the State of Connecticut in years.

“I look forward to Governor Rell signing this landmark legislation that is going to do so much good for our state, but especially Fairfield County where traffic gridlock is a constant frustration to drivers and a serious impediment to economic growth. We have been waiting a long time for this, but I believe that all of the research, effort, and time that went into crafting this promising initiative will pay off,” said Senator Freedman.

The bill includes funding for the state’s highways, its rail infrastructure, mass transit and ports.

“Last year’s $1.3 billion transportation bill to buy new rail cars and make other much needed improvements to our state highways was an excellent start, but only the beginning of  what we have to do to make real, lasting, improvements to our state’s transportation infrastructure. The bill we just passed is a real commitment to the future of our state, and we all owe a debt of gratitude to Governor Rell for her hard work and support,” said Senator Freedman.
