| Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26)
praised Governor M. Jodi Rell’s speech marking the opening
day of the 2006 Legislative Session as a strong sign of her
commitment to improving the quality of life for all Connecticut
residents. “I am
enthralled by her proposals to provide meaningful tax relief
to state residents and to promote job growth. That is an
agenda that will be well received by Connecticut citizens
who are struggling to support their families, pay their
bills, and plan for the future,” said Senator Freedman.
Senator Freedman said she favors the
Governor’s proposal to eliminate the property tax
on cars and reimburse municipalities for the loss in revenues
because Connecticut residents will receive a direct benefit.
“Getting rid of the property
tax on cars is not a new proposal but I believe that the
Governor’s support gives it a real chance of passing,
which would be terrific news for Connecticut residents,”
said Senator Freedman.
Senator Freedman also praised Governor
Rell’s proposal to transform the state Department
of Economic and Community Development into a new Department
of Business and Employment.
“Jobs have to be a top priority
and I believe that Governor Rell is committed to ensuring
that we succeed because nothing less than our future, and
our children’s future, is at stake,” said Senator
Freedman.
Senator Freedman said she is looking
forward to debating the Governor’s budget proposals
in the weeks ahead.
“We have a real opportunity
to make a positive difference in the lives of Connecticut
residents. Governor Rell has presented her ideas, and now
it’s up to the General Assembly to get to work,”
said Senator Freedman.
