Senator Freedman Addresses Tragic Tanker Truck Accident in Ridgefield

Senator Judith G. Freedman (R-26) today addressed the accident on Route 7 in Ridgefield that took the life of a Connecticut tanker truck driver. The tanker truck carrying 8,000 gallons of gasoline jackknifed, flipped and exploded at approximately 3:25 PM yesterday afternoon after a white SUV reportedly pulled out of a side road and cut off the truck. Senator Freedman expressed her condolences to victim's family and urged state drivers to act responsibly when behind the wheel.

"I first would like to extend my deepest condolences to the family of the victim, who reportedly was a Connecticut resident," said Senator Freedman, whose district includes Ridgefield. "I would also like to urge the motorist whose irresponsible driving resulted in this horrible tragedy to do the right thing and come forward to police."

Senator Freedman also urged all state drivers to be extremely cautious on the roads, for their own sake and for the sake of their fellow motorists.

"Especially during this summer vacation season where heavy traffic is commonplace on our state and local roads, drivers should use caution and care when behind the wheel," continued Senator Freedman. "We want our roads to remain safe for everyone and ensure that devastating accidents like the one we saw yesterday in Ridgefield do not occur again."
