East Haven, North Haven, Wallingford to Receive Piece of
$138 Million Grant
Hartford, CT – State Senator
Len Fasano (R-North Haven) today announced all three
communities in the 34th District will receive federal
stimulus grants for improving special education programs.
The money is being distributed through the U.S. Department
of Education under the American Recovery and Reinvestment
Act of 2009 (ARRA). The funds are handed out based on
a formula administered by the state Department of Education.
“I am very gratified that students in the 34th
District will benefit from this grant,” said
Senator Fasano. “At a time when our cities
and towns are facing enormous economic pressure, it
is critical that we do all we can to maintain important
services like special education. I am confident that
this federal stimulus money will go a long way toward
maintaining the high quality of education the 34th District
can be proud of.”
East Haven will receive a total of $821,818. North
Haven will receive $770,727 and Wallingford is set to
receive $1,577,276. In addition to the three communities
in the 34th District, all other towns and cities in
Connecticut will share in $138 million in federal stimulus
grants for special education. The funding comes from
the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education
Act (IDEA). IDEA serves more than 6 million children
and young adults with disabilities.
