Town to Receive $30,000 for North
Haven Police Department
Hartford, CT – State Senator
Len Fasano (R-North Haven) and State Rep. Steve Fontana
(D-North Haven) today announced the town of North Haven
will receive $30,000 in federal stimulus money to enhance
public safety. North Haven and 35 other municipalities
will receive a share of nearly $840,000 in Justice Assistance
Grants. The money is being released under the American
Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). So far,
79 municipalities have received more than $2 million
in stimulus crime prevention and public safety grants.
“The release of these federal stimulus dollars
will go far in enhancing the safety of the residents
of North Haven,” said Senator Fasano.
“By providing much-needed funding for critical
public safety tools like a new cruiser, this stimulus
grant will help to ease some financial pressure on the
town and I am grateful this money will be put to such
good use right here in North Haven.”
North Haven will use the funds to purchase an additional
cruiser for the police department. The vehicle will
be used exclusively by the department’s traffic
division to increase traffic enforcement in town and
increase highway and pedestrian safety.
"I'm very gratified to see that North Haven will
be receiving additional federal funds to increase safety
on its roads," said Representative Fontana.
"I appreciate the Governor's continued support
for President Obama's stimulus legislation."
All 169 municipalities in Connecticut are eligible
for these grants. The Office of Policy and Management
(OPM) is administering the grants and expects to have
all monies awarded by October 1st.
