Hartford, CT – State Senator
Len Fasano (R-34) and State Representative Mary Fritz
(D-90) today announced the Town of Wallingford will
receive $30,000 in federal stimulus dollars under the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
Wallingford and 23 other communities will share in a
grant of $768,000 being distributed throughout the state
to support local law enforcement and crime prevention
efforts. In Wallingford, the $30,000 will be put toward
equipment to improve information and data technology.
“We all want the men and women protecting our
communities on the police force to have easy access
to the tools they need to do their jobs effectively,”
said Senator Fasano. “But in
these tough economic times, many towns and cities in
our state have had to compromise and do without. This
sometimes means less funding for local law enforcement.
However, I am confident that this $30,000 grant will
help relieve some of the financial pressure on the town
and the department by providing police the tools and
technology they depend upon without further
straining the taxpayers.”
The $768,000 grant is part of the Connecticut Local
Pass Through-Justice Assistance Grant program which
is distributing a total of about $4 million in stimulus
funding throughout the state. Grants range from $9,100
to $100,000.
“This is extremely welcome news given the recent
discussions in town about updating the computers at
the police department and the associated price tag,”
Rep. Fritz said. “This is the
right funding at the right time.”
The state Office of Policy and Management, which is
administering the crime prevention grants, is accepting
applications through August 26, 2009. All 169 municipalities
are eligible to apply. Grants will be awarded by October
1, 2009.
