| Senator Len Fasano, R-North Haven,
is reminding constituents who have an opinion regarding the
proposed installation of a liquefied natural gas terminal
in Long Island Sound off the Connecticut coast that the Federal
Energy Regulatory Commission will hold its final in-state
public hearing on its draft environmental impact statement
this Tuesday. Senator Fasano is co-chair of Connecticut’s
Long Island Sound LNG Task Force. “Connecticut
has a big stake in how this plays out, and this public hearing
represents our best chance for making FERC listen to us.
There was an excellent showing at the FERC public hearing
in New London, and now it is up to those of us who in this
part of the state to make our voices heard. The businesses
that want to install the LNG terminal in Long Island Sound
are speaking loudly. FERC is speaking loudly to defend its
draft environmental report which alleges that this LNG terminal
would have only a minimal impact on the Sound. The public
– all of you – have to speak loudly as well.
This public hearing is an opportunity to do just that,”
said Senator Fasano.
Senator Fasano noted that FERC officials,
at his request, have agreed to meet separately with state
officials several hours before the public hearing.
“I believe that the public
hearing should be an opportunity for the public to speak.
I am asking everyone who attends to be patient because I
anticipate that many people will have a great deal to say,
all of it important to the process. Once again, I want to
remind everyone that this is their golden opportunity –
and their last opportunity – to speak directly to
FERC members. So, if the outcome of this project is important
to you, please put this hearing on your calendar,”
said Senator Fasano.
The public hearing is scheduled
for 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 16th at Branford High School.
