State Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca (R-Woodbury) and State Rep. Craig Miner (R-Litchfield) announced today that the town of Woodbury has been awarded a Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant in the amount of $214,875 to complete repairs to the town's sidewalk system. The project will include the construction of reinforced concrete walks between School Street and Judson Avenue, along with repairs to spurs on Washington Road, Park Road and Hollow Road. The STEAP grant will enable the town to immediately begin the planning process for these repairs.
"This overhaul of the town's sidewalk system is crucial for public safety as the population continues to grow and the need for safe transit throughout town increases," said Senator DeLuca. "The town of Woodbury does a great job of managing their finances and getting quite a bit accomplished without asking much from the state, so it is always good to be able to deliver grant money and help them with important projects such as this sidewalk repair, without having to ask for more from the local taxpayers. I thank Governor Rell for understanding the importance of this project and approving it."
"I'm grateful to Governor Rell and the Bond Commission for supporting this request for Woodbury," said Rep. Miner. "This is an excellent example of what the STEAP program was intended to do, provide funds for much-needed projects in small towns. The sidewalk repairs will help ensure pedestrian safety for years to come." |
