Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca (R-Woodbury) and
State Rep. Arthur J. O’Neill (R-Southbury) announced
today that the State Bond Commission is set to approve a grant
in the amount of $114,000 to the town of Roxbury for the construction
of a sand and salt building. The 50’ by 90’ construction
will store sand and salt for the town to use on icy roads
during the winter.
“A small town like Roxbury gets a
great deal accomplished on their own, with very little assistance
from the state, so it’s good to be able to give them
a helping hand every now and then with capital improvement
projects,” said Senator DeLuca. “First Selectman
Barbara Henry did a great job of coordinating this project
on the local end, and I’m pleased that the Governor
and the State Bond Commission saw fit to forward this grant
award through the approval process. This grant will alleviate
the need to place the entire burden of funding this project
with local property tax dollars, which is good news in these
tough fiscal times.”
“I’m very pleased to see Roxbury
get this assistance with their salt and sand operation,”
said Rep. O’Neill. “This is a vital project,
considering the kinds of winters we have had lately. This
building will increase the ability of Roxbury’s municipal
government to provide clear and safe roads for motorists
and residents. I appreciate the Governor’s assistance
in making this happen.”
The
grant will be awarded to the town through the Local Capital
Improvement Program (LoCIP), a fund set up by the legislature
to assist towns with one-time capitol improvements. According
to the legislators, the State Bond Commission is expected
to approve this grant at their meeting on Friday, October
31, 2003. |
