Senator DeLuca Named Police Chiefs' Legislator of the Year
State Senate Republican Leader Louis C. DeLuca was honored today by the Connecticut Police Chief's Association at a ceremony in New Haven, where he was named their "legislator of the year" for his efforts on behalf of law enforcement officers throughout the state.

"It is an honor to receive this kind of recognition from the law enforcement community, and I look forward to working with the Police Chiefs in the future to try and pass sensible laws that protect the public good," said Senator DeLuca. "I always try to be mindful as a legislator that we should do everything within reason to make the work of police officers easier, rather than burdening them with more red tape and regulation. These are the people that are out there every day making sure that our communities are safe, and we owe it to them to listen to their concerns and work together to make the job of protecting our well being as trouble-free as possible."

Senator DeLuca has worked in his capacity as Senate Republican Leader to pass several laws beneficial to the law enforcement community, including measures this year to extend the statute of limitations for the crime of sexual assault on a minor, and to increase penalties for these same kinds of crimes. He has also worked with Woodbury police officer Thomas Story to promote legislation to curb the growing trend of inattentive driving.
