State Senator Dan Debicella (R-21) and State Representative
Jason Perillo (R-113) applauded the awarding of a $30,000
Justice Assistance Grant to Shelton to buy outside surveillance
equipment for the local police department property.
According to information provided by Governor M. Jodi
Rell’s office, Shelton is one of 28 communities
awarded a total of $640,000 in this round of Justice
Assistance Grants received by the state through the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).
All 169 municipalities are eligible for the grants and,
to date, 150 cities and towns have received nearly $4
million in six rounds of grant awards.
“While I do not agree with the overall federal
stimulus package because of the high level of borrowing
involved, I believe we must ensure that our communities
get their fair share as our tax dollars are funding
this program. I am glad that Shelton is going to benefit
by getting help to purchase outside surveillance equipment
for the police department property,” said Senator
Debicella.
“Our police officers in Shelton work hard every
day to keep our streets and neighborhoods safe and hopefully
this grant will help to keep them out of harm’s
way,” said Representative Perillo.
