Town Benefits From Federal Stimulus
Funding For Wide Variety Of Local Projects
State Senator Dan Debicella (R-21) reported that Stratford
is among the 43 communities that will share in the latest
round of federal stimulus grants awarded for public
safety and crime prevention needs.
According to Senator Debicella, Stratford is set to
receive a $75,000 Justice Assistance Grant through the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to purchase
TASER units, 11 patrol rifles, and mobile data terminals.
These federal grants are administered by the state Office
of Policy and Management.
“We need to ensure our communities have access
to the best in public safety equipment and technology,”
said Senator Debicella. “Towns must continue to
provide public safety even though we are in a recession.”
“While I disagree with the overall federal stimulus
funding package because of the unsustainable borrowing
involved, I have helped ensure that Stratford gets its
fair share of these taxpayer dollars,” said Senator
Debicella. “Since the politicians in Washington
passed the stimulus, it is my job to ensure Stratford
benefits from this massive borrowing.”
According to information provided by Governor Rell’s
office, this public safety grant for Stratford is included
in the fourth round of federal stimulus funding of the
Justice Assistance Grants. To date, 122 communities
have received a total of $3.3 million in these grants.
