Debicella Honored By The Bridgeport Regional Business Council
Receives Award for Being Advocate of “Pro-Jobs Agenda” in Legislature

The Bridgeport Regional Business Council recently presented Senator Dan Debicella (R-21) with its AT&T Regional Legislator Award. Debicella represents the eastern suburbs of Bridgeport—Stratford, Shelton, Monroe, and Seymour.

Senator Debicella received the award for his commitment to job growth and his support of business, including his efforts to expand the state’s job creation tax credit program and his opposition to anti-jobs proposals.

“Senator Debicella, in his tenure today, has been a strong and consistent advocate for a pro-jobs, pro-business agenda in the halls of the legislature. With more voices like his, our state would be in much better shape,” said Paul S. Timpanelli, President and CEO of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council.

Senator Debicella said he is honored to be a recipient of the Regional Legislator Award.

“I believe small business will be the engine that pulls us out of this recession,” said Senator Debicella. “Connecticut government needs to create an environment for small businesses to grow and create jobs.”

Senator Debicella is Deputy Minority Leader, and is the leading Republican Senator on the General Assembly’s Appropriations Committee. He has proposed and supported legislation to control taxes, improve transportation, eliminate unnecessary government mandates on business, control health care costs, and expand health care access.

Debicella’s record includes authoring landmark 2007 legislation that gives tax credits to corporations that create ten or more jobs in Connecticut, and continuing work to extend that to any business than creates even one job in Connecticut. Debicella also proposed comprehensive, market-based healthcare reform to lower healthcare costs for the middle class. Debicella has also led opposition to bills that would have hurt small businesses and cost Connecticut jobs.

“The General Assembly will have many opportunities over the next couple of years to pass laws that will make a positive difference in the state’s ability to recover from the recession. I will continue to support pro-business legislation that will restore prosperity to our state, and improve the quality of life for all of us,” said Senator Debicella.

The Bridgeport Regional Business Council is a 1,000 member volunteer organization of businesses that work together to create an environment for business expansion and works to increase economic opportunity for the region by fostering a favorable climate for business expansion, retention and recruitment that will create jobs and grow the tax base. Affiliates of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council include the Stratford Chamber of Commerce.
