Funding Awarded
For Renovations At Fairway Acres Senior Housing
Senator Dan Debicella (R-21), Senator Robert Russo
(R-22), and Representative DebraLee Hovey (R-112) today
announced that the town of Monroe has been awarded a
$700,000 Small Cities grant for renovations at the Fairway
Acres Senior Housing complex.
All three legislators represent the town of Monroe
in the General Assembly. They said the funding will
be used for modern upgrades to 30 rental units that
were built with state funds 20 years ago. In addition,
plans for the funding include making handicapped accessibility
improvements to the community building and replacing
deteriorated sidewalks and paving.
“I am delighted that Monroe is being awarded this
funding to make quality of life and safety improvements
at the Fairway Acres Senior Housing complex. As Governor
Rell said when releasing the Small Cities grants recipients,
it is important that senior citizens have safe and secure
housing options,” said Senator Debicella.
Monroe is one of 28 municipalities awarded Small Cities
grants this week for housing, infrastructure improvements
and other capitol projects. The Small Cities program
is funded by a federal block grant, and administered
by the state Department of Economic and Community Development
(DECD).
"Since its construction 20 years ago, the Fairway
Acres Housing Complex has provided a secure and affordable
residence for Monroe's seniors. But times have changed
and so have the needs of those living in the complex,"
said Senator Russo. "This funding
will help to ensure a safe and functional environment
for Fairway Acres' residents for years to come."
"I'm pleased that DECD staff were so cooperative
in working with me on this application," said Representative
Hovey. "Fairway Acres really needs the
upgrades so it is inviting and the town will immediately
see results from this funding."
