Senator
Dan Debicella (R-21) today praised state and local officials
for working together to secure funding for the water pollution
control facility project in Stratford.
“I would like to
thank Governor M. Jodi Rell for her continued commitment
to clean water projects across the state, including prioritizing
Stratford,” said Senator Debicella.
“This is terrific
news for the Town of Stratford. Our leadership continues
to work in a bipartisan way to improve quality of life for
families in Stratford,” said Senator Debicella. Debicella
said the entire legislative team—Representatives Terry
Backer, John Harkins, and Larry Miller—had worked
with Mayor James Miron to secure the funding.
The State Bond Commission
today approved $109-million in Clean Water Funds, of which
it is expected that $27,410,824 will be dedicated to completing
the Stratford water pollution control facility project.
According to the state Department of Environmental Protection,
$22,683,564 of the new funding will be in the form of a
loan, and the remaining $4,727,260 in the form of a grant.
Now that the State Bond
Commission has acted, Senator Debicella said that state
and local officials will work together to finalize the funding
details by mid-February.
According to DEP, the
total known cost of the project is $61,757,796, and consists
of the design and construction of the renovations and upgrades
to the Town of Stratford's Wastewater Treatment Facility
including the addition of denitrification capabilities.
“Governor Rell
is correct that each of these clean water projects is a
step toward ensuring the environmental health and safety
of Connecticut residents. These projects are important in
our ongoing efforts to protect our rivers and streams, and
Long Island Sound,” said Senator Debicella.
